Using Fatty Acid Metabolites for the Industrial Products

Overview of fatty acids

Fatty acids are noted as carboxylic acids with lengthier aliphatic chains, and the structure of this chain is either bent or straight. They start functioning as nutrients for humans, and it becomes the essential element found across the common products available online.

The fatty acids are discovered across the deconstruction of the triglycerides using hydrolysis, the chemical reaction occurring whenever water starts separating one or various chemical bonds. During this instance, hydrolysis aids in breaking apart this triglyceride for separating these three fatty acids from the glycerol.

It is considered a single source of fatty acids. There are others, including the phospholipids, a cell membrane consisting of the phosphate group with two hydrophobic extensions containing the fatty acids. This acid starts being generated synthetically.

Types of fatty acids used

The classification of the fatty acids is based on the short, medium or long-chained fatty acids, stearic acid, distilled fatty acids, and oleic acid. The short, medium and long chain fatty acids are predefined by their number of carbons and the aliphatic tails. Eight or fewer carbons create this short-chain fatty acid, with 10 to 14 carbons comprising the medium-chain fatty acids and the longer chain comprising 16 or more carbons.

The distilled fatty acids are generated through the process of distillation using boiling points to remove any kind of impurities. It starts resulting in various distilled fatty acids being generated from the coconut-based oils, kernel oils, tallow-based oils, etc.

Stearic acid is the lengthier chain of fatty acids coming from the animal and vegetable fats being generated with the use of boiling water followed by distillations. Oleic acid is the acid which is naturally occurring and found in animals and vegetables.

Which products use fatty acids?

The fatty acid metabolites offered by the industries are present across various products. One of the highly common products containing fatty acids is soap, and you can find it in hand, bar and face soaps, shampoos, creams, lotions and facial toners. Fatty acids are an important element of other sanitary cleaners, including dish soaps, powders, and laundry detergents.

On the other side of this industry, fatty acids are used in various lubricants across production applications, including plastics, metal and jet planes. These are also produced for the additives and resins, including paints, metal coatings, wood, vegetable-based plastic additives, and additives for animal feed.
